City Livery Club Root and Branch Award 2020
The City Livery Club is pleased to announce that in this exceptional year the City Livery Club will grant the Root and Branch 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award to HRH The Princess Royal, and we are delighted to congratulate our Past Master on this recognition. The Club's website states:
'Whilst the general Award this year has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 crisis, the Club is keen to honour the work of The Princess Royal over her lifetime of engagement with the City Livery Companies. She had indicated her willingness to receive the Award prior to the current outbreak. We are therefore announcing this now by way of celebration of her work over 35 years.
The Princess Royal is a member or honorary member of no less than 11 City Livery Companies and has served as Master or Prime Warden of 9 of them. There has been a momentous acclaim from them to support her being honoured in this way. Her “Mother Company” is the Farriers where she became the second only female Master of any Livery in 1984/5. Since then she has served as Master of the Carmen, Loriners, Woolmen, Farmers, Master Mariners, Butchers, Saddlers and most recently as Prime Warden of the Fishmongers in 2017/8.
The accolades given to her include comments that she was extremely conscientious and a no nonsense leader. Without exception she has remained closely in touch with these companies, continuing an active engagement in their work and attending events to celebrate anniversaries or present prizes. She has spoken of her admiration for the way that the Livery bridge the gap between traditional skills and business.'
